Taranaki in Pink | A4 mixed media study
“Taranaki in Pink” is an original mixed media painting by Monica Schinkel.
This was originally painted as a duplicate for a commissioned artwork, as the artist painted a few alcohol ink sky backgrounds to get the right mix of pink, yellow, and blue, without mixing the colours to make green or brown. This resulted in two preffered, but different sky backgrounds, so the painting was completed on both. While these two paintings are of the same scene, the colours and the layout of each make for two very different paintings, which highlights the beauty of handmade things - even two of the same thing will not be the same.
The pink tones in this painting offer a whimsy romance in a unique tone to some of Monica’s more bright blue and green landscapes.
