The Spring Garden Collection is a series of original artworks and handmade jewellery by Monica Schinkel, inspired by a walk around the garden at her home in early spring. The garden was filled with beautiful flowers and birdsong, in a way which is both exciting, and soothing for the heart. The fresh air, bright colours, and grassy feet mark the end of the cold winter and spark an excitement for the joyous spring and summer months to come.

How delicious that kowhai nectar must be! In this painting, the usually-bright alcohol ink has quietened to form romantic, soft, and sweet pastel tones. These blend seamlessly with the textures of the kowhai, and then contrast with the vibrant tui. His rich dark plumage and shimmery feathers highlight his bold character as he smothers his face in pollen, in-between serenading any tui or person who passes through his garden.
Medium: Alcohol ink, calligraphy ink, & acrylic on yupo.
