Double Kōtuku | Original Artwork
‘Double Kōtuku’ features a kōtuku and a kōtuku-ngutupapa (a white heron and a royal spoonbill). Approaching these two birds on our boat, we could not decide whether they were herons or spoonbills. It was only when we got closer when we realized it was both! At the time, this was especially exciting, as I had understood both birds to have the same name (kōtuku). Of course they are actually not quite the same.
