The Art Resin Project.

…And The Beginning of the Misty Moments Collection.

Monica Schinke Art Misty Moments 1

While Luke and I were on his zodiac, exploring a serene West Coast lake on a still and drizzly day, we saw some beautiful scenes. One in particular stood out to both of us. As we came out from one bay, where we had been silently watching a white heron catching it’s lunch (that’ll be another painting), there appeared a little peninsula breaking through the mist, with a small group of birch trees clustered upon the end of it. They were arranged in a way that was so artfully perfect, they couldn’t have been placed there better by anyone who tried. When I saw them I knew - I *had* to paint this scene. So, I got my phone out in the drizzle (which may or may not have contributed to the deterioration of the poor thing), and snapped some photos to remember it by later.

Monica Schinkel Art 01

This is one of the photos I took on my phone, which ended up being my reference photograph for the artwork.

I was daydreaming about what this painting would look like for weeks - what mediums I would use, and how I would achieve the effect of such a calm and peaceful moment.

Resin. I would finish it in resin. There wouldn’t be any texture on the surface of the work. It would be still. Perfect.

Not long after I returned home, I received an email from ArtResin. They wanted to send me some free resin to use to complete a project with and share on my website. I knew immediately what I would use it for, and had been wanting to switch back to using this brand of resin for a while, and so, here we are.

I began my project. It would consist of 5 layers of different media. I have already shared a Reel on my Instagram page of the first layer, which is in alcohol ink (watch it here). Next was the acrylic paint, adding some ripple details to the water, then the first coat of resin. I added some white high flow acrylic to a bit of extra resin, and blended it in to add to the misty atmosphere. The trees and peninsula were painted in shades of black on top of the resin to lift them off the background, and a final layer of resin was added to protect and finish the artwork.

The next steps for this painting are are to sand and paint the edges. Follow along my Instagram page, or better yet, join my mailing list to see the final product, and similar artworks in time for the collection release in the later half of May.
